RAIN TAKES OUT FIRST DAY OF QUALIFYING

POMONA, Calif., February 5 - U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher will have to wait another day to unveil his new crew chief and new team after rain washed away the opening day of qualifying for the Kragen O'Reilly Winternationals here at Auto Club Raceway.

Weather permitting Schumacher will take to the track at 2:30 p.m. on Friday for his first pass of the 2009 season.

"It's a little bit of a let down to not get out there today, but it is what it is," said the six-time world champion. "We'll just give it another shot tomorrow." The Chicago-area resident is anxious to begin defense of his Winternationals crown, while laying the groundwork for a sixth straight world title.

"We definitely want to kick things off with a win," he added. "We know the competition will once again be tough this season, but we're determined to keep the number one on our wing."

Last year Schumacher captured 15 wins, while breaking the Top Fuel career victory mark previously held by Joe Amato. He enters '09 with 56 career wins to his credit.
