POMONA, Ca. (Nov. 12) - Larry Seay, driver of the Valvoline / Larry Seay Chevrolet Chevy S-10 Pro Stock Truck, entered eliminations at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. qualified sixth.
In the first round of eliminations Seay would defeat Dale Eaton. Seay ran a 7.495 / 178.83 mph to Eaton's 7.530 / 178.66 mph.
"That was a good race," said Seay. "That is the quickest we have run all weekend. This Panella horsepower has us flying today."
In Round 2 Seay met Greg Stanfield. This time the outcome would not be as good. Stanfield ran a 7.479 / 180.14 mph defeating Seay who ran a 7.498 / 179.12 mph.
"We exited a little earlier than I would have liked, but I am not unhappy. We have run the best here in Pomona than we have all year. I love racing in California.
"I feel like we have had a great race here. Even though we went out in the second round the truck ran strong, and I had some good lights. That makes this race feel like a success.
"This has been a good race for us, but I hope it's not our last. Currently we are hunting for a sponsor. If we don't find one, I don't know if we can afford to race for another year. That would be a real shame. As strong as we are running, and with the Panella horsepower behind us, I think we could be unstoppable next year.
"We have had a great year. It has been a long year, and I couldn't have done it without the help of a lot of people.
"First I want to thank my sponsors Larry Seay Chevrolet, and the last part of this year, Valvoline. I wouldn't be here in Pomona today if it wasn't for the financial support they have given me. I also wouldn't be able to get to the racetrack without crew: my Dad (Larry Seay, Sr.), John Hart and Joe Kimball. Bob Panella and his shop have given me great horsepower all year, and I have to thank them for that.
"It has been a great year, and hopefully we will back here in February racing again. With a little luck, we will be."
