POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 4) - Brain "Lump" Self, driver of the Lump Cylinder Heads Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, entered eliminations at the 41st Annual AutoZone WinterNationals in Pomona, Calif., in the sixth position.

In Round 1, Self met fellow Houston racer Joe Pigford. In an excellent exhibition of driving. Lump took the win over Pigford by virtue of his better reaction time of .447 of a second. It was the better reaction time that kept Lump ahead of Pigford when his motor broke on the top end. Self ran a 7.604 / 177.58 mph to Pigford's 7.616 / 178.66 mph.

"We hurt our good motor in the first round," said Self. "We had to do a top fuel style motor swap in-between rounds. We were really thrashing. We had to change the motor and the clutch. We barely made the call, but we got it done."

Self met Scott Perin in Round 2. Even with the motor change it would not prove to be enough to hold off Perin. Perin ran a 7.563 / 179.16 mph defeating Self's 7.575 / 178.21 mph.

"You know that was a pretty good number, considering the truck missed from the starting line to the finish line. If we had a little more time, maybe we could have caught the problem and won the race, but you never know. That's just racing.

"I'm happy about how we ran this weekend. We qualified well and went a round. That is nothing to be ashamed of.

"We are going home and fix our motors and we'll be back in Gainesville to give them another run for their money. Hopefully at the gators we can go so many rounds we end up in the winners circle."

The next race for the Pro Stock Trucks will be the 32nd Annual Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. March 15-18.
