POMONA, Ca. (Nov. 11) - Brian "Lump" Self, driver of the Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, came to the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. Confident about his chances to qualify for this final race of the year.

As confident as Self might have been, it was a string of mechanical problems that ended Lump's weekend. Lump would post his weekend best time of 7.662 / 175.34 mph in the third round of qualifying which would not be good enough to qualify for the race.

"We couldn't do anything right this weekend," said Self. "We just had one problem after another. We broke a rocker arm in round two. Hurt our good motor in round three and had to put our back up motor in for he final session. By that time it was too late.

"We knew coming into this race that we would need to make four good passes to make the show here. This racetrack gets better as more cars get down the track. We knew that if the cool weather held that it would just get faster and faster.

"We threw away the first three sessions. By the time we swapped motors it was too late for us. Then the rain end our season for us.

"I am pretty disappointed that we did not qualify here. We have had a pretty good year. It would have been nice to have finished the year racing, but I guess we will just have to come back in February and try it again."

Eliminations at the 15th Annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals begins promptly at 11:00 Am PST.
