CREW CHIEF DICK LAHAIE HAS MILLER LITE DRAGSTER RUNNING WITH BRACKET CAR CONSISTENCY AS NO. 3 QUALIFIER AT POMONA

DIXON LOOKS TO REACH FINALS OF WINTERNATIONALS FOR 3rd CONSECUTIVE SEASON

POMONA, CA. (Feb. 5) - With the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster qualified No. 3 for Sunday's elimination round while running as steadily as a bracket car, Larry Dixon looks to reach the final round of the Winternationals for the third consecutive year at the 40th Annual Autozone Winternationals.

Dixon's best qualifying effort of his four attempts came on Friday when he drove to a season-best time of 4.657 seconds at 311.92 mph, which narrowly missed as the best time of the day as Gary Scelzi's took the honors with a lap of 4.656 seconds. Crew chief Dick LaHaie and the Miller Lite Team tuned the car to two nearly identical laps on Saturday (4.701 @ 311.85/4.715 @ 311.99 mph) as the No. 91 car varied only .084 of a second over the course of its four provisional runs.

While the Miller Lite Dragster shows promise in reaching the winner's circle on Sunday, perfectionist LaHaie is not thrilled about the car's performance. "We are off about (0.05) five-hundredths of a second right now and I don't like the numbers that I am seeing."

Dixon's No. 3 qualifying effort will result in a first-round meeting with No. 14 Bobby Baldwin (4.826 @ 294.24), marking the first time the two drivers will have squared off at the starting line. Pole winner Joe Amato (4.645 @ 318.47) will face No. 16 David Grubnic (4.843 @ 304.94).

Dixon is looking for his second win at the Winternationals after claiming the top fuel title in 1998. He is in his sixth season behind the wheel and has eight NHRA national event wins in 18 final round appearances after his 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year campaign.
