POMONA, CA.- Jerry Haas has developed a reputation of being a driver that never flees a challenge. A failure to qualify at the last NHRA Pro Stock Truck event in Houston, Tx., provided enough inspiration for the multi-time Car Craft All-Star award recipient from Fenton, Mo., to score a berth in the final eliminations at the 35th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway. The Texas Harley-Davidson sponsored, Chevrolet S-10 of Haas managed to rank fifth in the final qualified field among 32-entries vying for 16 available spots.

The second day began on a positive note for Haas as he stepped up during the third session on Friday morning and improved his status with a 7.611/178.02. He was previously qualified with a 7.632/177.79, which was good enough for eleventh after the first day of qualifying. His Friday morning initially elevated him to the tenth spot, but one driver improved over him and he drifted back to eleventh going into the final session.

Being a veteran of the sport, Haas knew very well that every driver in the Pro Stock Truck division was coming to the starting line with nothing to lose. The driving wizard conjured up a spell during his final lap, which provided enough magic to catapult him into the fourth spot. Haas admitted that his key ingredient toward his improvement was a set of well-worn Goodyear slicks. His Chevrolet ran straight as arrow on that run en-route to carding a 7.574/178.26.

Haas, who has proven to be relentless in his pursuit of success, will face Todd Patterson in the first round of competition at the 35th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at 11 AM, tomorrow. This event is the final meet on the 14-race Pro Stock Truck series.
