Team Jeg's Looking Strong in Pomona
Jeg and Troy Coughlin began their quest for an all Jeg's Pro Stock final with first round qualifying at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, California. The heat of the afternoon sun beat down on historic quarter mile at the Pomona Raceway as the big block door slammers made their first attempts to qualify in the quick sixteen in the series final event of the season.
Troy Coughlin was the first of the brothers to qualify for the yellow and black. Troy had a solid pass of 6.95 seconds at 199.91 mph in his first attempt.
"It was a nice way to start the weekend," said Troy. "It's always nice to make a good pass in the heat of the day. It should give a good starting point as we tune our Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet for the rest of the weekend."
Jeg Coughlin Jr. left little doubt that he was ready for the weekend when he ran an impressive 6.90 second pass at 200.26 mph in Thursday's qualifying session. Jeg had a brand new engine between the frame rails of his Jeg's Mail Order machine. Thursday's pass marked the first run in competition for the new in-house powerplant.
"It was a great first pass," commented Jeg. "We didn't get the chance to debut the new engine in Las Vegas. The team has been working so hard on the new engine program. Each new piece has been stronger than the last and this one appears to be no different."
