Quaker State Racing Looks to End Qualifying On a High Note

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2005) -- Tony Pedregon, pilot of the Quaker State Racing Funny Car, continues his consistent qualifying performances heading into this weekend's Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway.

Pedregon, who sits in the seventh-qualified spot, drove to a 4.81-s-econd elapsed time during today's second session, backing up his 4.779-second pass at 321.12 mph set yesterday.

"I think one of the advantages we'll have tomorrow is that we already have two good runs under our belts," Pedregon said. "In our run today, we dropped a cylinder at about half track, then picked it back up again. I think under the circumstances, we made a pretty good run.

"Tomorrow, I think our approach is going to be very aggressive," Pedregon continued. "We're going to be shooting for that top spot like all of those other teams. We're capable of it and we've done it before. That's the game plan and I feel good about our chances. After we qualify, we're going to make the transition and focus on race day."

Quaker State Racing Notebook:

DROPPED: Quaker State Racing's Tony Pedregon briefly jumped out of the groove during today's second-qualifying effort for this weekend's Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway.

"When it drops a cylinder, it really changes the aerodynamics of the car," Pedregon said. "It makes it more of a challenge to drive, but these cars never really want to go nice and straight anyway. It's something that I just have to be able to feel and adjust to. It disrupted the car a little and it hurt the performance for the time that cylinder didn't fire. We can address that and we'll keep it straight tomorrow."
