STEVENS GRABS PROVISIONAL FRIDAY POLE IN POMONA

POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2007) - Richie Stevens Jr. grabbed the provisional Pro Stock pole position for the Automobile of Southern California NHRA Finals today after two qualifying rounds, one on Thursday and one today.

Stevens, driving the Team Mopar/Valspar Dodge Stratus R/T, pulled out a 6.665-second pass at 206.76 mph in today's session. His Thursday attempt produced a 6.694/206.51, No. 3 at that time.

If it holds through the next two qualifying rounds, Stevens will collect the fourth No. 1 of his career and his first at Pomona Raceway.

"So far, so good," said Stevens. "This is probably the best we've run in qualifying in quite a while. We've got a really good car. It's been running really good the past couple of races. It's finally gotten to where we wanted it to be. It seems like everything's kind of fallen together, between the setup, the way I'm driving, and the car itself, and we just need it to fall together on Sunday now.

"Hopefully it will hold up and we'll be in the No. 1 spot (after tomorrow's rounds). Tomorrow morning will probably be the best run out of all four sessions (because of cooler temperatures), and we just plan on coming back and duplicating it and making the same run again."

Stevens' Mopar teammate Allen Johnson, in the Mopar/J&J Racing Dodge Stratus R/T, is No. 5 in qualifying, with a 6.678/207.27.
