Koretsky's Great Season Ends with Ninth-place Pro Stock Finish

POMONA, Calif., Nov. 14, 2004 - Kenny Koretsky preferred to look at the big picture Sunday afternoon after losing a close race to Rickie Smith in Sunday's opening Pro Stock round of the Auto Club Finals at Pomona Raceway.

"I've had my best year ever in NHRA Pro Stock racing," Koretsky said. "We finished in the top 10 for the first time. We went to our first final round (the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis) and made it to several semifinals rounds this year. I've run career best times and speeds.

"It has been great being associated with Nitro Fish Wear, Larry Morgan's Dodge team and his great Hemi horsepower, and all the fans all around the country. We'll enjoy this for a few weeks, but we're going to start working on 2005 soon. We expect to go testing in just a few weeks."

Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia was pleased with the overall season results, but was looking for more on Sunday.

"That wasn't a good way to end the season," Guarnaccia commented after watching Koretsky's Nitro Fish Wear Dodge make a hard move to the right just off the starting line. "I was fairly disappointed."

Koretsky, who qualified eighth (6.742 seconds at 204.63 mph), slowed to a 7.189 at 152.12 and watched as Smith won with a 6.801 at 204.51.

The Richboro, Pa. driver was ninth with 961 points. His quickest and fastest run came at Reading, Pa. (6.679 seconds at 206.39 mph).

Koretsky will be ready when the Winternationals kicks off the 2005 season at Pomona, Feb. 10-13.
