BECKMAN QUALIFIES NO. 7 AT POMONA FINALS
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2010) - Jack Beckman, No. 3 in the class standings, qualified the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger Funny Car in No. 7 at the 46th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals. He recorded his quickest pass of 4.119 seconds at 307.30 mph in the final qualifying round.
In the earlier sessions, he posted a 4.144/302.82 (No. 2), a 4.981/155.40 (No. 7), and a 4.136/306.46 (No. 6). He earned five qualifying bonus points, while Ashley Force Hood, in fourth place in the standings and on his heels for No. 3 in the final rankings, earned three. Beckman enters Sunday's eliminations 10 markers ahead of No. 1 qualifier Force Hood.
"Good qualifying session," he said of the final pass. "If you look at the overall picture, you might not be too impressed with our finishing seventh. But the only session we didn't really run good in was the session that delivered the quickest times, and that would get you behind the 8-ball.
"I thought we made three really good, solid runs. I'm particularly impressed with getting down the left lane, which is clearly the inferior lane, in the last session.
"I really like the race car that we've got. The tune-up changes that we made testing after Vegas seemed to be making the car predictably quick. We've been OK when it was cool, and we've been pretty stout when it was warm. Tomorrow is going to be warm, so I feel great about that."
Beckman meets up with Bob Bode in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations, and could face-off with Ashley Force Hood in the final round.
