Strong Start Slots Anderson Second on Thursday in Pomona

Despite having a commanding lead in the championship standings Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team approached the first day of qualifying at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, CA just as they had every race of the season, looking to make the most of every opportunity.

Although they were limited to only one attempt by the unusual format employed at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, it was nevertheless a productive outing, as Anderson's 6.563-second time was second quickest for the day (behind teammate Jason Line) earning two extra bonus points to further pad his lead in the championship standings.

"I would classify our run today as a great start," said Anderson. "We were able to score a couple bonus points to pad our lead and put some extra pressure on our competitors, tilting the odds a little more in our favor, which is certainly a plus. We just operated like we had at the other races, being aggressive and between Jason and myself made two pretty nice runs. I just wish we could make another run today.

"We have a great chance to win the championship, but if we somehow came here and didn't qualify, it would have been a whole new ball game. I know that's somewhat of a stretch, but those things do happen. Going out in the first session and making a run that could get us qualified is pretty big and makes me feel pretty good about the rest of the weekend."
