Anderson Earns 14th Pole of the Season

POMONA, Calif. -- Today at the 38th annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals Greg Anderson has qualified his Vegas General Construction Pontiac Grand Am at the top of the Pro Stock ladder.

In the morning session of qualifying Anderson drover his Pontiac to a 6.733 / 205.51 mph to take his fourteenth pole of the 2003 season. Anderson will start tomorrow's race tied with Darrell Alderman with eleven event wins in a season. If Anderson wins the race tomorrow, he will break Alderman's record.

Anderson currently holds the Pro Stock record for most rounds won in a season. If Anderson advances to the semi-finals, he will break the NHRA record of 65 round victories in a season. John Force currently holds the record.

"This is exactly where we wanted to be," said Anderson of Charlotte, NC. "Right now breaking Darrell Alderman's record is the most important thing to this Vegas General Construction team, and it looks like we are on our way to doing that.

"When we clinched the championship a couple races ago we decided that we did not want to finish the season running so-so; we wanted to crush them. We wanted to leave the rest of the field with a bad feeling in their gut over the winter. I believe we have accomplished that goal.

"We also have the possibility of breaking John Force's record for the most rounds won in a season. I have 63; Force's record is 65. That is a big accomplishment, especially when you think about how tough this class is. To win one round in this class is something to be proud of; when I think about winning 63, I am amazed. If I can break his record, I think the record that will stand for quite some time.

"Tonight we will turn our attention toward winning the race tomorrow. Our goal at every race is to win, and that is want we want to do tomorrow. Winning this race will put an exclamation point on this record book season."

Eliminations at the 38th annual Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals will begin at 11:00 AM PST on Sunday Nov. 8.
