GOODYEAR FINISHES SEASON WITH MOST FINAL ROUND WINS IN NHRA
** National Hot Rod Association: Goodyear drivers finished the 2002 season in grand fashion, winning seven classes in the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway.
In the POWERade Drag Racing Series professional classes, John Force clinched his 12th Funny Car championship in the early rounds, then celebrated by beating Tommy Johnson Jr. in the final. Cory McClenathan won the Top Fuel final when he defeated Yuichi Oyama. Kurt Johnson won the Pro Stock final and kept his streak alive with at least one victory in the last seven seasons.
In the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series sportsman classes, Morgan Lucas (Top Alcohol Dragster), Jeff Taylor (Competition Eliminator), Anthony Bertozzi (Super Stock) and Kyle Rizzoli (Super Comp) all raced to victory on Goodyear tires.
Goodyear finished the season with 140 final round victories overall in national event competition. Goodyear is the only tire supplier for the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes, but the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker also finished the season undefeated in the Pro Stock and Competition Eliminator classes.
In sportsman competition, Goodyear was the winningest tiremaker with 71 final round victories.
