Herbert Qualifies Tenth for Final Race of the Season

Doug Herbert qualified his Top Fuel dragster in the fifth position at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.

The team used their quick Thursday run as a base run for every pass they made in the heat on Friday and Saturday. The car was consistent throughout those three runs, which were separated by less than six tenths of a second.

"I've led a team before but never at this level," said Crew Chief Keith Stewart. "This is the first time I've been crew chief for a team of this caliber. I'm proud of the crew for doing a nearly flawless job all season. Hopefully we can close out the 'For My Boys' tour with a good finish tomorrow, maybe even a win."

For the first round of eliminations on Sunday, Herbert is matched against the No. 7 qualifier, Morgan Lucas. The two have met only once this season, which occurred at Herbert's hometown race in Charlotte, N.C., and resulted in Herbert getting the win.

"I feel confidant about the weekend so far," said Herbert. "The car has been consistent and that's what we need. A lot of people at the track have reached out to me to show their support. They've told me how much they want to see me back out here next year and it's good to hear. Keith is doing a great job leading the team and we're all hoping to end the season on a high note tomorrow."
