D. Baca reaches semifinals at Pomona Finals

POMONA, Calif. (November 14, 2004) -- David Baca reached the semifinals in his D. Baca & Family Racing Top Fuel Dragster at the season-ending 40th annual NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals before losing to newly crowned Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher.

En route to the semifinals, Baca turned back Doug Herbert in the opening round and Cory McClenathan in the quarterfinals.

Against Schumacher, Baca was away first and gave Schumacher all he could handle until the mags started acting crazy causing the lost of the blower belt and ultimately causing the loss all engine power.

"We did all right during the battle (the qualifying rounds) the last couple days, and then did about the same during the war (eliminations)," said Baca. "I wish we could have gone a little bit further but I think we are showing the boys and girls that we here to stay. We're ready to play in '05. With some financial help, I think we can make a run at the championship."

Running a limited schedule this year, Baca finished in the No. 13 position in the final NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings with 663 points.

ESPN2 will air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 6 until 9 p.m. this evening. ESPN2 will repeat the elimination show from 3-5 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 19). Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.

D. Baca & Family thanks American Racing, Champion Spark Plugs, Don Steves Chevrolet (La Habra, Calif.), Goodyear, Lucas Oil and Mac Tools for their marketing support during 2004.
