POMONA, Calif., (Nov. 4, 2007) -- At the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, Calif., the final event of the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Dave Grubnic, driver of the black and electric blue-flamed Zantrex-3 Top Fuel dragster, wrapped up his 13th year as professional Top Fuel driver with a quarter-final appearance Sunday.

In the first round, Grubnic, the No. 12 qualifier, rolled to the starting line to race No. 5 qualifier Melanie Troxel. The two drivers gave the crowd in Pomona a stellar race down the quarter-mile, but it was Grubnic who turned on the win light, 4.542 seconds, 326.00 mph to 4.549 sec., 330.15 mph. The margin of victory for Grubnic was .026 seconds.

In the second round, the quarterfinals, Grubnic faced off against Brandon Bernstein. Grubnic held a slight advantage off of the starting line (.089 sec., to .095 sec.), but unexpectedly began to experience traction problems as the two cars powered down the famed Southern California drag strip, and that let Bernstein get around him to get the win, 5.020 sec., 305.77 mph to 4.549 sec., 322.19 mph.

Grubnic finishes the 2007 season in 11th place POWERade championship points.
