Connolly Goes for Pro Stock Title from No. 1 Qualifying Spot

POMOMA, Calif., Nov. 3, 2007 -- Dave Connolly begins the Auto Club Finals from the No. 1 Pro Stock qualifying position Sunday after running 6.486 seconds at 208.01 mph on a warm race track from the right lane, in Saturday's first qualifying session. And he he'll be attempting to overhaul Greg Anderson in the battle for the POWERade Series championship concludes.

He trails Anderson by 48 points and Cagnazzi Racing teammate Jeg Coughlin Jr. by 34 going into eliminations.

"It was an exciting day," said Connolly. "The first run felt pretty good coming in the right lane. We came into today trying to run slower and shoot for the No. 7 or 8 qualifying positions to get a shot at Greg earlier in the race.

"We tried to slow Evan Knoll's Torco Racing Fuels Chevy Cobalt but it didn't work, so we put destiny in our hands. We have to rely on some of the other Pro Stock drivers now.

"We want to take the car four rounds Sunday and try to put it in the winner's circle," added Connolly. "We have a lot of confidence in the car, crew chief Tommy Utt and horsepower from Victor engine shop. We'll still have a great year no matter who takes home the big trophy."

Connolly has eight victories this season and this was the fifth low qualifying effort of his career and the third in 2007.
