Cory Mac in at No. 11 in final qualifying session
POMONA, Calif. (November 13, 2004) -- After being on the outside looking in for three qualifying sessions, Cory McClenathan, driver of the Carrier Boyz Racing Berryman Products Top Fuel Dragster, made the Top Fuel field NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals in the final qualifying session.
McClenathan reeled off a blast of 4.598 seconds at 319.22 mph, good for the No. 11 position on the qualifying ladder.
"I was a little nervous going into that last qualifying session," said McClenathan, "but everybody did their job and the outcome was okay. Now we must really turn our attention to going rounds tomorrow. There are no easy rounds so we have to at the top of our game."
Cory Mac begins his quest for the Top Fuel title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. His opening round opponent is Clay Millican, who qualified No. 6. Time is local Pomona time (PST) and subject to change at anytime.
Also of Note: Steve Graham, in the Carrier Boyz Racing- backed '67 Chevy II, who races in the SSHA class, won the Division 3 Super Stock Championship for 2004. Graham, who won the Super Stock title at the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, is racing here at the NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals this weekend. His crew chief is Brian Olson. Graham will remain with Carrier Boyz Racing in 2005 as part of the new and exciting FRAM marketing program.
Qualifying highlights for the NHRA Automobile Club of Southern California Finals can be seen on ESPN2 on Saturday (Nov. 13) from 10 p.m. until midnight. ESPN2 will also air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 6 until 9 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 14). ESPN2 will repeat the elimination show from 3-5 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 19).
