ANTRON BROWN QUALIFIES EIGHTH AT POMONA FINALS
POMONA, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2010) - Antron Brown drove his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the No. 8 qualifying position Saturday evening at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. The defending event winner of the Auto Club Finals posted an elapsed time of 3.858-seconds on his final qualifying attempt.
Brown, who entered the final day of qualifying for the Auto Club Finals at Pomona in the provisional No. 8 qualifying position, remained eighth in the 16-car field after Saturday's first qualifying attempt. The Matco Tools rail lost traction in the left lane at Pomona and posted a lap of 4.487 seconds at 178.00 mph. The left lane proved the more difficult lane to maneuver during qualifying. On his last pass, Brown used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to post his quickest pass of the weekend at 3.858 at 317.48. It was the third time he has qualified eighth this season. He finished the season with an average qualifying position of five over the 23-race season.
"It was good to get out there and make a good pass down the track for the final run," Brown said. "We needed to get a good run and we did. We stayed in the top half of the field and that's important with the right lane being the lane of choice here this weekend. That left lane his been tough to tame this weekend. We're going to do our best tomorrow to try and get a win here for DSR, Matco Tools and our Army Strong soldiers."
Brown will face off against No. 9 qualifier Steve Torrence in the opening round of eliminations at 11 a.m. (PT) on Sunday. Brown is 4-0 in his career against Torrence and 2-0 this season.
