Geoffrion, NitroFish Mustang failed to qualify at Pomona.

POMONA, Calif., February 8, 2003 - Scott Geoffrion's NitroFish Ford Mustang Pro Stock racecar produced its quickest runs during qualifying for the K&N filters Winternationals at Pomona Raceway, but they weren't quick enough to crack the starting line-up for Sunday's race.

Geoffrion's best effort in the Hurley Blakeney-owned entry, 6.844 seconds at 200.98 mph, left him 30th in the 38-car field. The 16 qualifiers were the 16 quickest in history, going from No. 1 Greg Stanfield's 6.772 at 203.77 mph to Barry Grant's 6.814 at 202.03.

"We had violent tire shake on our two runs Saturday and weren't able to improve our time. We just weren't able to get a handle on the tune-up," Geoffrion said. "It was disappointing, but we did make some gains for a new team. We know we have a pretty snappy motor. We ran 201 mph on three of our four runs.

"We have a new team and we just need time to regroup and get to know each other more. We'll regroup and be ready to go at Phoenix (site of the Checkers Schuck's Kragen Nationals) in two weeks."

Geoffrion's best time came on Friday's qualifying run.
