EARLY EXIT FOR ADVANCE AUTO PARTS TEAM IN POMONA

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 12) --Based on strong pre-season test sessions over the last few weeks, the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Team had high expectations coming into this past weekends opening race of the 2006 NHRA season in Pomona, California. However, the team's best qualifying run of 4.807 at 313.00 mph. placed them in the 16th spot and forced a first round showdown with number one qualifier, John Force. Cruz Pedregon was out of the gate first, but smoked the tires at half track for a first round loss.

Though disappointed, Cruz puts things in perspective: "We tested well in pre-season over the last few weeks, but just came up short in making the right adjustments during qualifying. We knew we had to bring our best to beat Force and we just got a little too aggressive in the set-up. We have a good car and our team will make the right adjustments to come out strong in Phoenix"

In 2005, Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Race Team finished for the second consecutive year in the top 10 in points, was #1 qualifier twice, and recorded a career best ET speed of 4.680 seconds at 330.80mph.

Next Race: NHRA Nationals in Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 24-26 (ESPN2)
