FRAM® AirHog Unleashed at Pomona Raceway
POMONA, Calif. (February 8, 2005) -- On Thursday, February 10, the power of the FRAM® AirHog dragster will be unleashed as the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals unfolds at Pomona Raceway.
Cory McClenathan will bring his Carrier Boyz Racing dragster to the starting line sporting the orange and black corporate colors of FRAM® and their FRAM AirHog air filter brand for the start of qualifying as the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series gets underway for 2005.
"Since last October, when we announced our multi-year marketing partnership with FRAM and Honeywell, we have been working hard and looking forward to the first race of the season," said McClenathan, who enters the 2005 season No. 5 in Top Fuel wins with 28.
Crew chief Todd Smith took a two-prong approach to readying the new Brad Hadman Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM AirHog dragster with the new one-piece body during testing. He used last year's tune up while also trying new and innovative performance enhancing set ups.
"Todd used our last year's tune up during testing in Phoenix and the numbers were favorable but at the same time we felt that we needed to run better elapsed times to keep up with the Kalitta cars, the Army car, the beer cars and Amato's car -- plus all the other great cars out there. So we tried a lot of new things both on the Monday after Phoenix and last weekend in Las Vegas but for Pomona we'll go back with the old tried and known," recounted McClenathan.
"Last year we had successes, going to two finals and winning one, but while we had the peaks we also had the valleys. This season Todd and the crew are aiming for consistency. Going from point A to point B is very important to Todd Smith and this Carrier Boyz Racing team. We think that will work to our advantage.
"Rounds are points and points are very important from day one until the end of the season. Looking back, we used to start worrying about points in mid-season. No more. We worry about points starting with the first race. We need to qualify this FRAM AirHog dragster high and go rounds at each and every event."
As we move into 2005, in addition to primary marketing partners FRAM and Honeywell, Carrier Boyz Racing welcomes GMC to our program and welcomes back American Racing Wheels, Autolite Spark Plugs, Fabtech, Mac Tools, Prestone and PurePower Oil. Visit our website at www.carrierboyzracing.com.
