Bruce Litton Qualifies In First-Ever NHRA/Winston Championship Drag Racing Event
POMONA, CA. - Bruce Litton final ended his NHRA Top Fuel qualifying drought at this season's NHRA AutoZone Winternationals in Pomona, Ca. The veteran enclosed trailer dealer from Indianapolis, Ind., remained qualified in the Wix Filters Top Fuel Dragster presented by The Top Dragster Driving Experience from the first qualifying session to the end.
Litton would not comment on his overdrive percentage except to say that it was "rumored to be 25%" On the other sanctioning body that Litton competes in, the rules mandate a 25% overdrive limitation. He was reportedly testing combinations under those regulations.
Regardless of what he was doing, he performed well in Saturday's qualifying. Litton rebounded from the less than stellar performance on Friday to hammer out a 4.758/311.05 lap. Yesterday, the team went up in smoke off of the line and fell to ninth in the show. His performance in the third session landed him in the tenth spot.
Litton was nothing short of ecstatic about qualifying in his first NHRA/Winston Championship Drag Racing event.
"I've waited a long time for this to happen," explained Litton. "We had a game plan of things that we wanted to do and we did our best to make them happen. Fate was on our side and it worked out."
He elected to sit out the final session to conserve parts and to better prepare for Sunday's final eliminations. Litton finished as the eleventh qualifier.
Final eliminations are slated for Sunday and he is scheduled to face Kenny Bernstein.
The Top Dragster Driving Experience has retained Litton's team to carry out their marketing program with WIX Filters.
