Larry Dixon Brings Top Fuel Points Lead to the Desert in Style with the Debut of the Miller Lite-Arizona Diamondbacks Top Fuel Dragster
CHANDLER, ARIZ. (Feb. 18) - After striking gold last week in Pomona with his season opening victory at the Winternationals, Larry Dixon continues with the precious stones theme as he will bring diamonds to the desert with the Miller Lite-Arizona Diamondbacks Snake Racing Top Fuel Dragster.
Dixon and the Miller Lite Team could not have asked for a better start to the 2002 POWERade Drag Racing Series, as they overcame some difficult rounds en route to a final round win over chief rival Kenny Bernstein. Now, Dixon looks to capitalize on that winning momentum as he returns to Firebird International Raceway for this weekend's race-the site of his super performance numbers during off-season testing which included a gem of a lap with an elapsed time of 4.51 seconds after shutting off early. He also enters this weekend's race with a 22-point lead over Bernstein, marking the first time he has led the points race since last September.
"Hopefully some of the data that we compiled during testing will carry over to the event," said Dixon. "The one major difference is that this weekend is supposed to be warmer, so some stuff may not apply. We really have to just see how the weather goes. That is very critical when it comes to the new tire and what we can and can't do. When it's warmer it's harder to get down the track, but we were able to make some runs in the 4.50s when it was warm at Pomona. If it stays cool, then we will use our data from testing. If it's warmer, then we will go with what we learned at Pomona."
Another stone that Dixon may be keeping in mind is a ruby, which signifies a 40th anniversary. In this case, team owner and Hall of Fame driver, Don "The Snake" Prudhomme will see his 40th Anniversary season (1962-2002) celebrated this weekend with the debut of a special logo on the Miller Lite-Arizona Diamondbacks ride.
"The car looks great all the way around," said Dixon. "To be honest, when I get in the car, I can't see the paint. It all looks the same. There is no change in the car competitively. It is the same car we won in at Pomona two weeks ago, so that makes it nice. Hopefully we will have the same results in the Diamondbacks car as the team did on the baseball field during last year's World Series. No matter what though, our car will give Phoenix fans another reason to cheer." <pre> Larry Dixon's Career Results in Phoenix
