GOODYEAR WINS FOUR TIMES IN PHOIENIX NHRA RACE

CHANDLER, Ariz. (March 7, 2005) -- The National Hot Rod Association's traveling show heads for Gainesville, Fla. for the third race of the 2005 season, the Gatornationals. One of the richest NHRA events in terms of history, the Gainesville race has seen its share of excitement through the years.

Still, it will be tough to top the excitement generated during the second race of the season, the Checker, Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz. Four teams using tires from the Goodyear family of companies won their class in that event and one of them, Rodger Brogdon of Texas, won his first national event.

Brogdon, racing in the highly competitive Competition Eliminator class, defeated David Rampy in the final round. Brogdon's only previous experience in a national final came at Dallas way back in 1987. He lost that race and has been trying ever since. Brogdon won on Dunlop tires, an associate brand of Goodyear.

Tony Schumacher, John Force and Allen Johnson also won their class.

Schumacher won in Top Fuel, the 22nd victory for the defending series champion. Schumacher beat Morgan Lucas in the final round.

Force drove around Ron Capps to win the Funny Car final. It was the 115th career victory for Force. Phil Burkart Jr. now leads the class points chase. It is the first time Burkart has led the standings.

Johnson beat Ron Krisher in the Pro Stock final.
