HERBERT PRIMED FOR PHOENIX
Phoenix, prerace: With Jim Brissette back in charge of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, Doug Herbert looks to make a statement at the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird Int'l Raceway.
Herbert announced earlier this week that Doug Kuch would no longer be serving as crew chief for his Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster. Amidst what one might think would be a time of turmoil, Herbert remains level headed and confident about the crew chief change and looks forward to racing in Phoenix.
"When you want a championship like we do, sometimes things have to change, and have to change quick. You can't take too much time making a decision. The rest of the team is still intact, and we are hungry for a win," said Herbert. "We had a parts failure in Pomona that kept us from making it through to the second round. That was very frustrating, and hopefully won't happen again. Brissette, just like everyone else on the team, is dedicated to making sure the Snap-on Tools dragster is not only back in contention, but making rounds and getting us closer to the Countdown to the Championship."
The Snap-on Tools team spent eight days testing at Firebird Int'l Raceway. Herbert and the entire team anxiously await the opportunity to put the information learned during the test session to use during qualifying and ultimately through four rounds of eliminations.
"Our test session here was strong," said Herbert. "The track was in good condition, and it should be even better this weekend. We put what we learned during testing to good use at Pomona, even though it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to. The entire team has worked hard, and we're ready for things to go our way. I can't think of a better way to start than with a win at Firebird Int'l Raceway."
