David Baca remains optimistic after first round loss.

CHANDLER, Ariz. (February 23, 2003) -- After qualifying 11th, David Baca, driver of the Henkelman & Baca Motorsports/American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/YP.Net Top Fuel Dragster, met Darrell Russell in the opening round of the 19th annual NHRA Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals, the second of 23 events on the 2003 NHRA POWERADE ® Drag Racing Series.

Leaving virtually together, it was a good drag race until Baca lost a cylinder and Russell pulled away for the win. Although he remained winless in his four professional races, the Brentwood, Calif. driver remained optimistic about the future.

"That first win is coming." said Baca. "I won in other forms of racing and I'll win here. It's just a matter of time. We've got a group of hard work guys. Their morale is high and we'll go to Gainesville intent on winning not only our first professional round but intent on winning the race also.

"I want to thank American Racing, Waterloo Tool Storage, YP.net and all our associate marketing partners who make it possible for us to go racing. Your investment will begin to show return in the very near future.

The next race for Baca and the Henkelman & Baca Motorsports/American Racing/Waterloo Tool Storage/YP.Net Top Fuel Dragster is the 34th annual Mac Tools Gatornationals. The event at Gainesville Raceway in sunny Florida unfolds March 13-16.
