LOS ANGELES (November 14, 1998) - Jim Dunn Racing announced today that PENTHOUSE magazine, a publication celebrating its 30th Anniversary next year, will be the primary sponsor on their Pontiac Firebird Funny Car for the 1999 NHRA season.
Kelly Magrath, 26, of LoJolla, Calif., who has nine years of experience in motorsports, has been named as their driver on the 22-event Winston championship tour.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for our race program and something we've been working on for quite a long time," said team owner and crew chief Jim Dunn. "This is the kind of sponsorship that catapults your program to the next level and we look forward to doing everything we can to help promote PENTHOUSE magazine during their anniversary celebration.
"Starting in January, we'll be doing extensive testing in preparation for the new race season. Our goal is to make the PENTHOUSE Pontiac competitive at the very first race and put ourselves in a position to contend for the Winston championship. We've had quite a bit of success in the last two seasons running on a limited budget and now we'll be able to give some of these guys a real run for their money."
Jim Dunn has been involved in NHRA drag racing as a driver, crew chief and car owner since 1950. During the last two years, he was chief tuner for a team that saw two different rookie drivers win national events. In 1997, Dunn's team won the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown and then went on to win the $100,000 Big Bud Shootout at Indianapolis. This season, Dunn's program won back-to- back events at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, and the Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Ill.
