Florida Talent Leads the Way at Orlando Speed World Dragway

ORLANDO, FLA. -- NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing action kicked off today at Orlando Speed World Dragway. After the first round of qualifying, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes were topped by Florida Residents Troy Williams and Ben Donhoff.

In Top Dragster Williams of Bradenton, Fla., ran a 6.964 second run at 187.34 mph good enough to take top spot away from Kurt Damron Jr., of Fruitland Park, Fla. In Top Sportsman, Donhoff from Melbourne, Fla., blazed the ¼ mile strip receiving top honors and hitting a top speed greater than 210 mph.

In other action Rodger Brogdon of Tomball, Texas piloted his '05 Cavalier to the pole position in Comp Eliminator. Lee Sharp from Maryville, Tenn., took the No. 2 spot behind Brogdon in Comp Eliminator and accomplished the same No. 2 spot in Super Stock. His run in the Super Stock class was only bettered by Bob Dennis from Shorter, Ala. Finally in Stock Eliminator the '69 Cammaro of Tewksbury, Mass., resident Jim Boudreau took the pole with a time of 10.361 seconds.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Orlando Speed World Dragway. Gates open at 8 a.m. with racing kicking off at 9 a.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and children 12 and under are free with paid adult on both Saturday and Sunday.
