MCCLENATHAN SET TO COMPLETE FOUR-STRAIGHT STRETCH IN NORWALK
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 24, 2010) - Cory McClenathan and the FRAM Top Fuel dragster team are set to complete a four-in-a-row stretch of races of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series at this weekend's fourth annual NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
In the last three events, McClenathan has amassed one semifinal and two quarterfinal finishes. Plus, he posted the quickest pass ever in NHRA history racing to 1000 feet, a 3.752-second pass in Englishtown, N.J. He's third in the point standings, has won twice this season, and is aiming to clinch a spot this weekend in the Countdown to 1 playoffs which begin for the top 10 in points in the final six races of the year. Only five races remain before the playoffs kick in.
"Our goal is to clinch our place in the Countdown," said McClenathan. "We're just 54 points behind our Don Schumacher Racing teammate Tony Schumacher in second, and moving past him in Norwalk is very doable.
"The FRAM dragster has demonstrated its consistency and the crew chiefs (Todd Okuhara and Phil Shuler) have done a great job of keeping the car going down the track under all conditions. Norwalk will most likely have hot conditions, similar to what we saw in Bristol (Tenn.) last weekend, and I know the FRAM boys will make it work.
"Everybody loves going to Norwalk, everybody loves having a pound of ice cream for a buck; it's always a great deal and not just for the kids," added McClenathan of one of the favorite circuits on the NHRA tour.
"It's also the last race of the four-in-a-row stretch, so we're looking forward to going out there, qualifying well, going some rounds and clinching a berth in the Countdown."
