NOBLE, Okla. - Federal Mogul Dragster driver Shelly Howard had another tough loss in a season full of bad breaks during this past weekend's final Division 4 race at Thunder Valley Raceway Park in Noble, Oklahoma.

Howard, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, qualified No. 4 with an elapsed time of 5.559 at 255.31 mph, but was defeated by No. 5 qualifier Troy Buff's 5.645 at 254.23 mph to Howard's right-there 5.648 at 249.94.

"It was just a bad round," said Howard. "The brakes wouldn't hold on the starting line. The car was rolling through the [starting line] beams and deep staged. I didn't want to redlight, so I didn't cut the tree as hard as I usually do and was late."

Howard's troubles did not end there. A valve cover gasket was pushed out around the 900 ft mark that covered the tires with oil.

"I had my hands full down there," commented Howard. "It was on a really good
run, and was going straight, then all of a sudden it made a hard left turn.
I was just a fluke deal. All of the valve cover nuts were tight, and it was
a fairly new gasket. It just goes par for the way this year has gone."

Undaunted, Howard will move on to her next event, the Parts America Nationals at Heartland Park near Topeka, Kansas.

"We'll just do like we always do, put the last race behind us," said Howard. "No matter how good or bad you do at your last race, it is a new ballgame when you get to the next track. We will give it our best, and that is all we can do."
