FRANK NICHOLS JR. HEADS LIST OF GOODYEAR NHRA WINNERS

MORRISON, Colo. (July 18, 2005) -- Frank Nichols Jr. was among the four drivers racing to victory on Goodyear tires in the National Hot Rod Association's MOPAR Mile High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Goodyear's victory total for the first 13 NHRA national events in 2005, 68, exceeds all other tiremakers.

Nichols' victory came in the Super Street class, where Goodyear leads in national event wins this season. Nichols won with a reaction time of .018 of a second. Nichols is the defending division champion in Super Street racing.

The other Goodyear winners included Tony Schumacher in Top Fuel, Robert Hight in Funny Car and Warren Johnson in Pro Stock.

Schumacher saved his best run of the weekend for the final round, when he beat Morgan Lucas with a track-record pass at 331.45 mph. The win gave Schumacher the lead in the Top Fuel standings. Schumacher has now won in his last six appearances in the final round.

Brandon Bernstein recorded the best elapsed time of the weekend with a lap of 4.59 seconds.

Hight, who drives for John Force, beat Phil Burkhart in the final round and assumed the Funny Car points lead for the first time in his career. He set track records for elapsed time (4.796 seconds) and speed (322.58 mph) in qualifying on Friday.

Warren Johnson beat Dave Connolly in the Pro Stock final top collect his third win of the season. The victory was vintage Johnson, who engaged in a 90-second burndown battle of wits with Connolly before both cars were staged for the race.
