Langdon draws Grubnic again, this time in Sonoma
Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster driver Shawn Langdon hopes to continue his recent surge in Top Fuel in Sunday's FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway.
Langdon will start final eliminations in the No. 11 position, and he'll face David Grubnic in the first round. Langdon has raced Grubnic in each of the last two races, going 1-1 against the Australian.
"We've been running Grubby a lot lately," Langdon said. "It's just kind of how it rolls sometimes."
Langdon is on a bit of a roll lately after some mid-season struggles. His Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster has won at least one round in the last three events, advancing to the semifinals in Chicago.
The So-Cal native earned his spot in Friday's night session, going 3.929 seconds at 310.98 mph. But Langdon also made a solid pass in Saturday's final session, 3.936 at 306.81 mph.
"We made a good pass on the last run," Langdon said. "We see little areas to improve on here and there. It'll probably be the same conditions Sunday as it was today, so it's just a matter of going out there and making a good run tomorrow."
Langdon and crew chief John Stewart will have to chase the conditions in Northern California in order for the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster to win four rounds Sunday.
"It's a little tricky out here, because you have such good air and you make a lot of power," Langdon said. "It's a matter of figuring out how to apply it to the race track. That's the trickiest part about running this place, especially when it gets hot and the track gets a little slippery."
