ACTION-PACKED WEEKEND ON TAP FROM COAST TO COAST There'll be NHRA drag racing from coast to coast this weekend, from the Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals in New Jersey Virginia to Federal-Mogul Series divisional racing in California and Texas, and NHRA.com will be there to cover the action on all fronts. In New Jersey, the NHRA.com team will provide up- to-the-minute results and news from Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for the eighth race of the 23-event NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series. MATCO TOOLS SPRING SUPERNATIONALS TV PLAYDATES

Television coverage on ESPN2 of the Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals will include a qualifying highlights show Saturday, May 20, 7-9 p.m. (ET)/4-6 p.m. (PT), plus the eliminations show, May 21 (ESPN2) 9:30-11:30 p.m. (ET)/ 6:30-8:30 p.m. (PT). There will be a repeat airing of the eliminations show, May 23 (ESPN2), 3-4 a.m. (ET)/ midnight-1 a.m. (PT)

Could Connie Kalitta and team be preparing to resurrect the "Bounty Hunter" tradition of painting opponents' names on his car and striking through them as he defeats them? We think so. Tommy Johnson Jr. has been idle since testing in Kenny Bernstein's Top Fueler in the pre-season, and even though he's been rumored to be the wheelman for every deal coming down the pike, NHRA Nitro News has learned that TJ Jr. will be back on the track competing at the Prestone Route 66 Nationals in Chicago. Are you sitting down? He'll have gasoline in the tank. Speaking of Jr.'s, NNN has learned that Gary Ormsby Jr., son of the late Top Fuel champion, made his first licensing passes in a Top Fuel dragster following the Atlanta event. More on this in the days ahead.

FUNNY CARTER, TOM HANER PASS

AWAY Terry "Fuzzy" Carter, the well-liked and roundly respected red-bearded sidekick of former NHRA and drag-boat champion Eddie Hill, died May 17, after a brief battle with cancer. Veteran Comp eliminator driver and car owner Tom Haner Passed away May 6 of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare brain disease.

NHRA ANNOUNCES 2000 CALIFORNIA HOT ROD REUNION HONOREES

Nick Arias Jr., Robert "Bones" Balogh, the Beebe brothers (Dave and Tim), Cloy Fitzgerald, and Bob Noice will be the Lifetime Achievement honorees for the ninth annual California Hot Rod Reunion presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California on Oct. 6-8 at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif. Said NHRA Event Director Greg Sharp, "This group of honorees combines with [previously announced] grand marshal Danny Ongais to give us a diversified reflection of hot rodding history. It includes drivers, engine builders and tuners, aftermarket suppliers, and sanctioning body representation. It is with great anticipation that we are looking forward to this year's event."
