Morgan Lucas Racing press release
Tuners Venables, Elliott released from Morgan Lucas Racing
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (Aug. 23) – Morgan Lucas Racing announced Tuesday the release of crew chief Dickie Venables and assistant crew chief Kurt Elliott from their positions on the GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster in the NHRA Full Throttle Series.
"Sometimes you have to make a decision you don't really want to make," said team owner and driver Morgan Lucas. "Things haven't been going so well this year. We really liked those guys. They are great people, but something just wasn't clicking."
The GEICO dragster has won only a handful of rounds since earning a victory at the season-opening Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Lucas currently sits ninth in Top Fuel points and is poised to make the Countdown to the Championship, the NHRA's version of the postseason.
No replacement has been named. The team will participate in this week's testing at Lucas Oil Raceway in preparation for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals from Sept. 2-5 in Indianapolis.
