ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 24) – Simply making a Pro Stock field is a solid accomplishment these days, especially considering when at least one Countdown to the Championship driver has failed to qualify in each of the first two races of NHRA's playoffs.

So Lucas Oil Ford Mustang driver Larry Morgan was pleased after he qualified No. 14 for Sunday's Pro Stock final eliminations of the AAA of Texas NHRA Nationals at Texas Motorplex.

Morgan qualified with a pass of 6.607 seconds at 208.78 mph in the third of four sessions, improving his elapsed time in each of the first three sessions.

"We got in," Morgan said. "We didn't make a real good run the last run. It screwed up when one cylinder died on us, but we did get down the track. This track is tricky. We go from one race being 60 degrees to the next race being 90. We're going to go back to 60 degrees in Reading. I usually do better when it's cooler, so I can't wait to get to Reading.

"But all we can do is the best we can do tomorrow. I appreciate everybody supporting us. We'll be good."

Morgan, the 1991 winner in Dallas, faces No. 3 qualifier Mike Edwards in the first round.

"We changed the car around because in the first two runs, we were kind of spinning real hard, so we put a little more bite in the car," Morgan said. "It was a lot better. All we can do is hope for the best tomorrow. We'll do the best we can."
