Right pieces falling into place for Lucas Oil's Larry Morgan
READING, Pa. (Oct. 1) – Lucas Oil Ford Mustang driver Larry Morgan continues to show improvement in Countdown to the Championship races as he qualified No. 7 in Pro Stock for the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
Though Morgan fell short of the Countdown, he's making noise in the races that make up the NHRA playoffs. He qualified No. 7 in Charlotte, and then took out Mike Edwards in the first round in Dallas last week.
"We're just making better adjustments with everything," Morgan said. "We're getting everything together, and it's all falling into place. We just need four runs tomorrow. We're real happy with the outcome."
Plus, Morgan said his Ford enjoys running in the Pennsylvania weather.
"This car likes this air," Morgan said with a chuckle. "My motors like good air."
Morgan moved up to No. 7 with a stellar run in the final qualifying session, going the quarter-mile in 6.560 seconds at 210.67 mph. The elapsed time matched Rodger Brogdon, who got the No. 6 spot by having a slightly faster speed (210.70 mph).
"We've had a good weekend," Morgan said. "We were fourth in the last session, so we're going forward. Everything was good. We just need to make four good runs tomorrow, and we'll be fine."
Morgan faces No. 10 qualifier Warren Johnson, whose best pass was 6.567 at 209.88 mph, in a battle of Pro Stock veterans in the first round of eliminations Sunday, which begin at 11 a.m. EDT from Maple Grove Raceway.
