Getting first career win in Brainerd tops Langdon's wish list
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 17) – Although the NHRA Full Throttle Series regular season is winding down and his spot in the postseason seems secure, Shawn Langdon, driver of the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster, knows now is not the time to let up.
"Nothing is easy. I mean, even if you qualify in the top half of the field, the chances of drawing a good car in the first round is still pretty good," Langdon said. "We've been getting David Grubnic the last few of races and we're 2 and 2 against him this year. He's a good driver and that's a good car.
"And if you don't get a top car, you have a guy who is fighting for a spot in the Countdown. You're getting everybody's best shot right now."
Langdon said improving his own racecar is a never-ending goal.
"These last few races we've been trying to work with what we've got," Langdon said. "We've been making a lot of good runs lately, it's just that as lot of the other teams are also running really well right now."
Heading into this weekend's 30th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, Langdon said a strong showing at Brainerd International Raceway would help his team out in many ways.
"It's a race my guys want to win a little bit more than others because it's the Lucas Oil race," Langdon said. "It would make things that more special if I could get my first Top Fuel win at a Lucas Oil-sponsored event."
However, it's not going to be all work in Brainerd.
"Brainerd is always one of the fun races," Langdon said. "There's always entertainment to be found out in the Zoo. Plus, it's a great track and produces some great racing.
"With as tight as the competition is right now, it should be fun for the fans and fun for everyone."
