Langdon ready to roll through Texas field again
DALLAS (Sep. 24) – If past history holds, Shawn Langdon and the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster have the rest of the Top Fuel field right where they want them at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals.
Last season, Langdon went to the finals at Texas Motorplex from the bottom half of the ladder. For Sunday's eliminations, Langdon in slotted 10th and ready to do some more damage.
"We learned a lot today," Langdon said. "Our last run was right on the verge of making it down the track. We know we can go in the low 3.90 second range."
Langdon, who had a best qualifying pass of 3.922 seconds at 310.84 mph, faces No. 7 qualifier Spencer Massey, who went 3.905 seconds at 315.78 mph, in Sunday's first round of eliminations.
Hot, slick track conditions have been a factor all weekend and should come into play on Sunday as well. Langdon said the ability to cut a good light at the line and make it down the track is going to be key to winning rounds.
"We were right there qualifying with Spencer, so it should be a good race," Langdon said. "With the temperatures going up, the track is going to be tricky from the word 'go.'"
Even if he doesn't repeat last year's performance, Langdon said a couple of round wins would do wonders for the team's place in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel standings and morale.
"That first round is going to be big for us," Langdon said. "After going out in the first round at Charlotte, we can’t afford another first round loss. We've got a chance to make a big move by facing a top five guy in the first round.
"I'd rather have this way. I'd rather have one of those guys early rather than face one of them after they're on a roll."
Eliminations from Texas Motorplex get under way at 11 a.m. CDT on Sunday.
