Points Leader Line Poised to Claim A Win and the Title in Las Vegas
Mooresville, N.C., October 27, 2011 – As the NHRA’s Full Throttle Drag Racing Series heads to Las Vegas for its penultimate race of the 2011 season, Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line finds himself in a unique position. Holding a 188-point lead in the championship standings thanks to an impressive 11-2 elimination round record in the first four races of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, Line enters this weekend’s Big O Tires Nationals as the only professional competitor with a chance to clinch the title at the Nevada quarter-mile.
But even though they are all but assured of winning their second championship, Line and his KB Racing crew will steadfastly maintain the same approach to this race as they have the previous 20 stops on the circuit, looking to end their weekend in the winner’s circle for the seventh time this year.
“Although it’s certainly exciting to be going into Las Vegas with a chance to clinch our second championship, our primary focus is still on winning the race,” said Line. “After all, there are several ways that we can leave there with the title, with the easiest one being to score more points than everyone else. It’s a great opportunity, and I’d like nothing more than to do it with championship style.
“Fortunately, we have a decent record of success in Las Vegas, with both Greg (teammate Anderson, who is currently second in the standings) and I having won there in the past. We tested there last week, and I feel like our Summit Racing Pontiacs are going to be really good. The forecast is calling for cooler temperatures, which also works in our favor.
“However, it all still comes down to execution. As we saw in Phoenix two weeks ago, every detail must be addressed, so we have to be on top of our game. We may have a big lead, but until we are declared the champions, we’re not about to back off.”
Beyond a desire to claim the championship or his seventh race win of the season, Line has added motivation for doing well at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, as he would like to reward those who have made his Pro Stock career possible, including team owners (and Las Vegas residents) Ken and Judy Black.
“This is an important race for us, and we’ll have lots of friends and family on hand cheering us on,” said Line. “Besides, as Ken and Judy’s home town, racing in Las Vegas is always big for this KB Racing team. They are very special to us, and it means a lot to be able to do well in front of them. Ken came out to our test last week, and to see how far he has come, and how hard he has worked is really an inspiration to us all, and makes you want to do the same in return.
“We’ll also have some of our friends from Summit Racing Equipment at the track this weekend, and we’d like to do well for them. As we’ve often said, we could not ask for a better sponsor, because their values and goals mirror those of this race team. Hopefully we’ll be able to take advantage of these great hot rods and have everyone join us in the winner’s circle on Sunday night.
“We had a huge race at this event last year. It was Ken’s first race back, and we were able to put both Summit Racing Pontiacs in the final, with Greg winning and putting himself in position to win his fourth championship. We’d certainly like to repeat that performance again this year, although I’d naturally like to reverse the outcome in the final, so we can celebrate a win and a championship. That would be cool.”
