Enders will fight for Indy title from mid-pack spot
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 4) – ZaZa Energy Pro Stock driver Erica Enders is enjoying the support of her fans at Lucas Oil Raceway and will go for the 57th Mac Tools U.S. Nationals title out of the No. 8 qualifying position.
Enders' Cagnazzi Racing Chevrolet Cobalt made her best pass of the weekend in the fourth of five qualifying sessions, run earlier Sunday. Enders qualified No. 8 with a run of 6.645 seconds at 207.43 mph.
"We didn't go what we thought we were going to go," Enders said. "We've definitely got some work to do when we get back to our pit. But by the skin of our teeth, we stayed in the top half of the field for lane choice in the first round."
Enders, who is also supported by Toreador, will face Kurt Johnson in Monday's first round. She beat Johnson in the first round in Seattle two races ago.
"Tomorrow's a new day with new weather conditions that will require a different setup," Enders said. "Here's to everybody starting over tomorrow from scratch. We'll get our stuff together and be ready for race day."
Enders has enjoyed a fun weekend, as ZaZa Energy Managing Partner Gaston Kearby celebrated his birthday on Sunday. Plus, Enders has spent a lot of time with fans at the "Big Go."
"The fans are wonderful here in Indy," Enders said. "I've been through six boxes of autograph cards, and I've spent a lot of time in the back of the pit talking to fans. They've been great when we tow back in front of the stands. It's really exciting for me, and I'm glad to be a part of the 57th U.S. Nationals."
