Buddy Perkinson press release
Buddy Perkinson to Debut New NHRA Pro Stock Mustang for Larry Morgan Racing at Las Vegas Nationals
Kansas City, MO, October 24, 2011 – NHRA Pro Stock driver Buddy Perkinson has driven his way into an early-career milestone: the opportunity to debut a brand Pro Stock race car for a championship-winning car owner. The young Prince George, Virginia racer has been selected by Larry & Diane Morgan to debut a brand new Don Ness / Sinned Customs Ford Mustang at the NHRA Big O Tires Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas, October 27 – 30. Perkinson will also race the Larry Morgan-powered Pro Stock Mustang at the November 10 – 13 NHRA Auto Club Nationals at the famous Pomona, California track. Sponsoring the young driver for both these races will be Tuffrail.com.
“As a young racer, I am very honored to have been asked by Larry Morgan to debut a completely new race car,” says Perkinson. “I can't thank Larry and the Larry Morgan Racing crew and Tuffrail.com enough. Here they are, putting a brand new car together in just a matter of weeks for me to run at Vegas and Pomona. I also want to thank my parents, Mark and Terri Perkinson, for their encouragement and help in getting this effort put together with Larry Morgan Racing.”
Perkinson notes that after the Reading, Penn race weekend, he and his family race team weren't planning on running any more races in 2011. “But we weren't very happy at all with our performance in Maple Grove,” says Perkinson. “We knew we could do better... we'd raced better than that... and we really didn't want to end our season that way.”
That is when Buddy's parents started talking to Morgan about putting together an effort for the last two NHRA National races. “The car was in the final stages of construction,” says Perkinson. “So after we had been talking, Larry put a rush on completing the car and having it delivered to his race shop. The bare chassis got there on October 13 and Larry and his guys have been working around the clock to get the car finished up for Vegas. They've done an amazing job. In the grand scheme of things, this whole effort – the car, the engine, getting me in it and the sponsorship literally came together overnight. As a matter of fact, the first time I'll see the car is when I get to the track in Vegas.”
In addition to debuting an all-new car, Perkinson is also looking forward to getting back to an NHRA National race at Vegas. At the April 1-3 SummitRacing.com Nationals, Perkinson qualified 17th.
“We missed qualifying for the show by three- or four-one thousandths,” notes Perkinson. “As a racer, that kind of eats at you. Missing it by that little, especially at the beginning of the year, really drives me to go back out there and prove to myself – and my fans – that we can get it done and compete at the highest level. And with a large field and some heavy-hitters, we've gotta bring our A-game and go all-in, that's for sure.”
In an ironic twist, one of his fellow racers at both Las Vegas and Pomona will be Al Wolfe, driving the very same Larry Morgan-powered car that Perkinson drove earlier in the year, qualifying for both the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte. “We know what that combination is capable of,” says Perkinson. “So we'll have our work cut out for us at both events – but I'm certainly not afraid of hard work.”
