Worsham’s Al-Anabi Toyota Dragster Top Qualifier At Norwalk
Del Worsham captured his third top qualifier spot of the 2011 season with a quick pass of 3.798-seconds on Saturday to lead Toyota in preparation for Sunday’s NHRA Full Throttle Series Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
Worsham had previously been the number one qualifier at Charlotte, where he went on to victory, and at Englishtown, where he advanced to the finals. Today’s effort marked the fourth time in the last five races that Worsham has qualified in the top two.
The Morgan Lucas Racing team also turned in an impressive performance in Saturday’s qualifying as Shawn Langdon placed fourth and teammate Morgan Lucas was fifth. It was the top qualifying showing of the season for each. The two were separated by just .001-second in qualifying.
After struggling in Saturday’s morning run, both Larry Dixon and Antron Brown improved on their times during the afternoon session, despite much warmer track conditions. Dixon qualified sixth, while Brown placed ninth. Dixon’s 3.877-second run was the fastest of the second qualifying session earning him three bonus points and giving Al-Anabi Racing the top run in each of the two qualifying sessions this weekend.. Dixon and Brown made up last year’s Top Fuel final here at Norwalk a year ago, with Dixon earning the victory.
In Funny Car, Cruz Pedregon suffered mechanical problems in his first run and was forced to bump his way into the field in session two to earn a spot in Sunday’s eliminations. The two-time Funny Car champ answered the bell with one of the top runs of the session to jump into the top half of the grid with an eighth.
Worsham, Dixon and Brown enter tomorrow’s eliminations occupying the first, second and fourth positions in the Top Fuel point standings, while Pedregon begins Sunday’s action in fourth-place in Funny Car.
