Lasoski Scores Second-Place Finish in Prelims of Rain-Shortened Cactus Classic
"I just hate it for Scott Boyd and the SLS Promotions group. They did a
lot of work to prepare the racetrack, but Mother Nature took over and
sometimes that wins over anything else. We had a perfect starting
position on the outside of the front row. We thought we had a really good
shot of winning. We'll just have to carry this momentum over to Vegas and
see what that brings."
Danny Lasoski, lamenting the rained-out finale of the Cactus Classic, but looking forward to this weekend's J.D. Byrider World of Outlaws Nationals in Las Vegas.
Danny Lasoski and the No. 20 Tony Stewart Motorsports team scored a second- place A-main finish in preliminary action of the Cactus Classic at Manzanita Speedway in Arizona over the weekend. "The Dude," who qualified 10th and won the second dash event from the pole, took an early lead in the A-main, as he seized control of the event in turn two of the first lap. After a race-long battle with eventual winner Craig Dollansky, Lasoski fell victim to lapped traffic just prior to the checkered flag.
Sammy Swindell, driving the No. 5 Forbrook Motorsports entry, timed in at fourth quickest and earned a sixth-place finish in the A-main event on Friday evening. Tim Shaffer, last week's winner at the Tulare Thunderbowl, also picked up a victory in the second heat race in his No. 6 Casey's General Stores Mopar.
After heavy rain and severe thunderstorms postponed the Cactus Classic finale on Saturday evening, officials rescheduled the event for Sunday afternoon. Mother Nature was declared the winner once again on Sunday, as heavy rain washed out the event. The $12,000-to-win Cactus Classic finale is scheduled to be completed on October 11.
"We've got a rain date and it's rescheduled, but we were all geared up and ready to go," said Lasoski, the 2001 series champion. "Now we just have to look toward Vegas, where it's basically the same type of racetrack so the cars will be basically the same."
Lasoski and the World of Outlaws will resume action this weekend with the J.D. Byrider World of Outlaws Nationals at The Dirt Track @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway March 10-11. Francis Grabs Top-Five Finish at Clarksville
Steve Francis and the No. 15 Francis Motorsports team picked up a fifth-place finish over the weekend at the Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tenn. The No. 15 team returned to action in the Northern All-Star Late Model Series, after competing in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series opener in February.
Francis also earned a 12th-place finish in the A-main event at the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway outside of Calvert City, Ky., to wrap up the weekend's action. Francis and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will return to action April 8-9, at the Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, Md., and the Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, Va.
