Ashley Unveils Evan Knoll "Fuel Doctor" Funny Car at Gatornationals, Qualified No. 18

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 16, 2007) - Mike Ashley, driving the new-look Torco Race Fuels, Inc. Dodge Charger featuring a likeness of Torco-owner Evan Knoll on the hood, made two qualifying runs for the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, neither of which were quick enough to provisionally qualify for the 16-car field.

Ashley's first run was a tire-shaking 5.217/255.24, the eighth quickest ET of round one. He aborted his second run just after the 60-foot mark, netting a 9.722/86.99, and landing him in the 18th qualifying position heading into Saturday.

"We had problems with our set up, and we just couldn't get down the track," Ashley said.

"I'm disappointed because I always want to go into Saturday qualified well, but, the reality is that there are four passes to get into the field. Tomorrow we'll hit it hard and get in the show.

"I am extremely confident that we'll do very well tomorrow," Ashley added.

Qualifying continues Saturday, March 17 at the Gainesville Raceway, with nitro sessions scheduled for 1 and 3:30 p.m. (EDT). Eliminations in the third of 23 events in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series begin Sunday at 11 a.m.

ESPN2/ESPN2-HD will broadcast a qualifying show airing late Saturday night (1 a.m. EDT on Sunday, March 18), and a two-hour eliminations show at 5 p.m. (EDT) Sunday evening.
