Friday Qualifying Summary
Mike Coughlin grabs top spot
In the first of the four scheduled qualifying sessions John Coughlin was the first of the Team Jeg's drivers to take on the new racing surface at Memphis Motorsports Park. John laid down a 7.558 at 178.95 mph and took over the No. 12 spot.
"I know that there was more left on the first run. I short shifted and it hurt the ET at the finish line. We are looking forward to improving our time with each run this weekend," said John.
Mike Coughlin returns to the track as defending event champion. In addition, he is coming off of being the No.1 qualifier and winner of the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Mike crossed the finish line beams with an impressive 7.500 at 179.90 mph and moved in to the No. 2 spot.
"I can't say enough about this new engine that was built in our shop. We have making good runs and we have some pretty solid power under the hood. We are really looking forward to big things this weekend and for the rest of the year," commented Mike.
John improved his time in the second session. He ran a 7.531 at 178.92 mph and slipped to the No. 15 spot.
"The engine just did not respond how we thought that it would have based on the changes that we made. We are looking forward to day two and making a charge toward the top," said John.
Mike continued to show why his Jeg's Mail Order S-10 is feared. He ran a 7.458 at 179.88 mph and moved up to the top spot.
"We are working great as team. The engine shop, the guys here everything is clicking and it shows," explained Mike.
