Scott Kalitta leads Team Kalitta qualifying in Memphis

MILLINGTON, Tenn., (Sept. 15, 2007) -- At the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn., just a few miles north of Memphis, Scott Kalitta will lead the Kalitta Motorsports four-car team into Sunday's final eliminations.

Scott, driver of the DHL Toyota Solara Nitro Funny Car, qualified his flopper entry in the No. 8 qualifying position, 4.852 seconds, 311.85 mph, for tomorrow's 16-car Funny Car eliminations field. He will race No. 9 qualifier Tony Bartone, 4.855 sec., 315.12 mph, in the opening round.

Scott's Cousin Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, qualified his "Big Red" dragster in the No. 12 slot, 4.608 sec., 322.42 mph, on the Top Fuel ladder. Doug will face off against No. 5 qualifier Doug Herbert, 4.569 sec., 313.44 mph, in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations. Doug is the defending Top Fuel champion at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Native Australian Dave Grubnic, driver of the Zantrex-3 Top Fueler, qualified his rail in the No. 14, 4.624 sec., 318.17 mph, position. Grubnic will pair up against No. 3 qualifier Larry Dixon, 4.568 sec., 318.77 mph, in the opening stanza.

Hillary Will, driver of the Kalitta Motorsports-managed, Ken Black-owned KB Racing LLC Top Fueler, qualified in the No. 15 position for eliminations.
