Humphreys happy with quickest run of Saturday qualifying; RaceRedi Pontiac driver moves up to eighth with good run

MEMPHIS, Sept. 27, 2008 -- After spending many hours in the last three weeks working to get the RaceRedi Pontiac GXP to run well with horsepower supplied by Warren and Kurt Johnson, Justin Humphreys and his team saw good results on a warm Saturday afternoon at Memphis Motorsports Park.

In his final qualifying attempt for Sunday's O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals, Humphreys uncorked a 6.629-second, 207.27-mph quarter-mile lap that was the quickest on a warm day as qualifying concluded for Sunday's O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals. And it boosted him from 11th to into eighth place in the starting lineup.

"We are finally getting a handle on Warren and Kurt's horsepower," said an elated Humphreys. "And Frank Gugliotta, our crew chief, is doing a great job. We didn't abort a run. It goes down the track every time.

"We are getting better on every run. Frank is making little changes that are working. We are excited going into Sunday's eliminations. We'd like to win some rounds."

Humphreys, a winner two weeks ago at Charlotte, meets Jeg Coughlin (No. 9, 6.631 at 207.59 mph) in the opening round.
