Torco Racing Fuels Cobalt Sets MMP Track Record

MEMPHIS, Sept. 14, 2007 -- Dave Connolly continued his NHRA Pro Stock hot streak Friday, driving Evan Knoll's Torco Racing Fuels Chevy Cobalt into the provisional No. 1 position in track record time as the 20th O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals got underway at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Connolly, who was second after the day's opening run, posted an elapsed time of 6.673 seconds at 205.36 mph.

"To come in here and pick up the momentum from Indianapolis and get the pole position is due to a bunch of testing we did Tuesday at a track in Farmington (N.C.)," said Connolly. "When the track gets as good as it did tonight we've had some problems before, but it appears we might have got that problem solved. We are looking forward to racing. We think we have a car that will go down any track now."

Connolly came into this event on a two-race win streak (Reading, Pa., and Indianapolis) and is leading the Countdown to Four title chase by 14 points.

Cooler weather is predicted for Saturday and Connolly may be able to lower his current mark. He has two more attempts.
